Rio’s Zona Sul is not lacking when it comes to unforgettable sights, but while the turistas flock to the excursion buses for half-day trips to Corcovado or Sugarloaf, seasoned travelers know they can do better. And the very best of these will likely be sitting across from you at Palaphita in Lagoa. Why? Located directly across from the Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon, this almost/nearly/possibly over-the-top outdoor lounge boasts some of the best views and social atmospherics to be found, day or night, but especially at sunset. Palaphita serves up an assortment of premium casual ‘gourmet’ menu items, a well-stocked bar and is vegan-friendly. Take note of Palaphita’s location before you set out. While it is situated in the Lagoa neighborhood, the actual address in Ipanema. And a tip: go early to take the 4.5 mile walk around the lake. Or rent a bike or a canoe. And don’t forget to look up to see the Cristo Redentor high above you.

Five Stars.. and counting
Breathtaking views and night mood to match. We were there with friends on a clear night and the stars in the southern sky were just another plus to an already fun evening. Highly recommended for the views and the casual hangout vibe.
