About

This new world-class museum is located in one of the most historic areas of the city; Rio’s Port Zone is experiencing major revitalization to be ready for the Olympic Games in 2016. The Museum tells the history of the city through art, and will have a permanent exhibition and also short and long term temporary exhibitions, with Brazilian and international ambiences. The museum is housed in two separate buildings, connected by a covered walkway: the Dom João VI Palace, built at the start of the last century, and the other in modern style.

Monday - Closed Tuesday to Friday - 10a to 5p Weekends, Holidays - 10a to 5p TICKET OFFICE CLOSES AT 4:30 PM

Good, bur could be better

As is the case with many museums in Rio, this one falls short of its potential. We've visited twice now and it will take quite more to entice us to return again.

Very little going on. Exhibits on display were really kind of gross, irritating and immature. Staff was fooling around. I would not go back here.
